Resident. An uncommon but probably overlooked species. Recorded only on a handful of occasions in the last ten years, last recorded from Lake Vyrnwy in 2010.

Wingspan :  M & F, 26-32mm.

Common Swift.

Habitat

Bracken covered slopes on heathland, rough grassland and open woodland.

Foodplant

Bracken roots are the main foodplant but probably feeds on roots of grasses and herbs.

Lifestage data

Overwinters twice as a larva then pupates underground. Larva June-May.
