Common and widespread on the western side of the county, almost absent from the eastern half.

Wingspan :  M & F, 48-72mm.

Habitat

Heathland, moorland, downland, coastal grassland, sand-dunes, meadows and open woodland.

Foodplant

Heathers, willows and creeping bilberry on heaths and moors, bramble and meadowsweet.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as a fully grown larva. Larva June to April, feed until Sept. Pupates in cocoon near ground.
