Montgomeryshire Status

Just a handful of records form the north-east of the county. This day flying species is probably under recorded, flying as it does, in the canopy of birch trees as they come into leaf.

Wingspan :  M & F, 35-39mm.

Habitat

Open woodland, scrub & open ground.

Foodplant

Downy birch and silver birch.

Lifestage data

Eggs laid on twigs in time for larvae to feed on opening catkins. Then feed on younger leaves when larger, hiding between spun leaves during day. Larva Apr-June. Overwinters as pupa.
