Generally a fairly scarce and local species, but it can be locally quite common, as at Middletown. Recorded from the north-east to the south of the county.

Wingspan :  M & F, 25-30mm.

Habitat

Broadleaf woodland, hedgerows, parks and gardens.

Foodplant

Spindle.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as a pupa. Larva June-July and August-September. It can be seen at night hanging from a silk thread on the foodplant.
