Local in southern England and the north-west of Scotland. Scattered colonies throughout the rest of the UK.

Montgomeryshire Status

Resident & migrant. First recorded in 2023 at Cemmaes, in the far west of the county.

Wingspan :  M & F, 14-16mm.

Sharp-angled Peacock.

Habitat

Open broadleaved woodland, chalk and wooded heathland.

Foodplant

Birch and sallow.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as a pupa, in the debris on the ground. Larva, late June to August and September.
