A fairly uncommon species, but is found throughout most of the county.

Wingspan :  M & F, 42-48mm.

Confusion species

Feathered Beauty, Mottled Beauty, Great Oak Beauty and Willow Beauty.
Flight time (Montgomeryshire)

Habitat

Mainly woodland and conifer plantations and other sites with remnants of ancient woodland.

Foodplant

Mainly conifers, but also reported on various broadleaf trees.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as a small larva on the foodplant. Larva August-late May. Pupates in loose soil.
