Habitat

Open woodland, hedgerows, scrub and gardens.

Foodplant

Mostly birch, sallow, oak & hazel, but also recorded on many other species of trees and shrubs.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as pupa underground. Larva July-early October which feed gregariously at first and singly later.
