A fairly uncommon and local species restricted to the eastern side of the county.

Wingspan :  M & F, 36-38mm.

Confusion species

Scarce Chocolate-tip and Small Chocolate-tip.
Flight time (Montgomeryshire)

Habitat

Woodland, scrub, hedgerows and other situations where the foodplant grows.

Foodplant

Poplars, willows, sallows and aspen.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as a pupa which is spun amongst the leaves of the foodplant. Larva mid May-June and August-September.
