Montgomeryshire Status

A fairly common species that can be recorded in reasonably large numbers in the right environment e.g. Cors Dyfi in the west of the county.

Wingspan :  M & F, 35-45mm.

Brown-tail.
Flight time (Montgomeryshire)

Habitat

Woodland, scrub, hedgerows, gardens and urban areas.

Foodplant

Most broadleaf trees and shrubs.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as a small larva in a frail cocoon on the foodplant or in the leaf litter below. Larva June-August. Pupates in a cocoon which is formed on the foodplant, or below in the litter.
