Montgomeryshire Status

A local and very uncommon species which has only been found recently in the south and west of the county.

Wingspan :  M & F, 36-42mm.

Confusion species

Light Brocade, Pale-shouldered Brocade and Dog's Tooth.

Habitat

Woodland, heathland, moorland.

Foodplant

A wide range of mainly woody plants, such as birch, oak and heather. It has also been recorded on bracken.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as a pupa in an underground cocoon. Larva late July-September, feeds at night and during the day.
