An uncommon species, that only seems to be found in the north-east of the county.

Wingspan :  M & F, 44-52mm.

Confusion species

Starwort, Striped Lychnis and Water Betony.


Flight time (Montgomeryshire)


Habitat

Mainly calcareous habitats.

Foodplant

Wild and cultivated mulleins, common and water figwort and buddleias.

Lifestage data

Overwinters for up to five years in captivity as a pupa in a strong underground cocoon. Larva late May-July, feeding in both day and night.
