A rather uncommon species, but it is found throughout the county in scattered sites.

Wingspan :  M & F, 40-44mm.

Confusion species

Knot Grass and Sycamore.

Habitat

Broadleaf woodland, downland, scrub, hedgerows, and gardens.

Foodplant

Poplars, aspen and occasionally willows.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as a pupa in a fragile cocoon beneath the bark or in a suitable crevice. Larva July-September, feeding at night.
