A fairly local and uncommon species that has been recorded from scattered sites on the western side of the county.

Wingspan :  M & F, 30-36mm.

Confusion species

Crinan Ear, Ear Moth and Saltern Ear.
Flight time (Montgomeryshire)

Habitat

Marshes and wet moorland.

Foodplant

Purple moor-grass and cottongrass.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as an egg. Larva May-July, feeding at first inside the lower stems, later amongst the roots. Pupates amongst the plant litter.
