A fairly uncommon species, but it has been recorded from scattered sites across the county.

Wingspan :  M & F, 26-35mm.

Confusion species

Vine's Rustic, Rustic, Small Mottled Willow, Dark Mottled Willow, Lorimer's Rustic, Porter's Rustic and Clancy's Rustic.
Flight time (Montgomeryshire)

Habitat

Mainly grassland.

Foodplant

Grass and cereal seeds.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as a larva in a cocoon underground, in which it later pupates in the spring. Larva September-spring through to the summer.
