A migrant species that arrives here every year but numbers can fluctuate wildly depending on original influx numbers, subsequent breeding and the weather.

Wingspan :  M & F, 32-52mm.

Confusion species

Ni Moth, Plain Golden Y, Beautiful Golden Y, Scarce Silver Y, Scar Bank Gem, Essex Y and Dewick's Plusia.
Flight time (Montgomeryshire)

Habitat

Everywhere.

Foodplant

Low growing wild and cultivated plants.

Lifestage data

Survival through winter is probably rare. Larva spring-autumn. Initial larva from migrants. The population boosted by their offspring and regularly topped up by further influxes from the continent.
