UK Status

Resident. Widespread and locally common in Britain as far north as the Lake District.

Montgomeryshire Status

First recorded in 2013, in the east of the county at Roundton Hill nature reserve. This was only the fifth record for north Wales.

Wingspan :   M & F 5-6mm.

Confusion species

Many species of Stigmella and Ectoedemia are very similar.

Habitat

Wherever the foodplant is found.

Foodplant

Sallow.

Lifestage data

Leaf miner. Eggs laid on upperside of leaf midrib. Larva first mines the midrib then the leaf forming a blotch. Pupates in a light reddish-brown cocoon.
