Resident. Widespread, but never a common species.

Montgomeryshire Status

First recorded in the east of the county at Middleton in 2013. This was only the 9th record for north Wales.

Wingspan :   M & F 4-5mm.

Confusion species

Many species of Stigmella are similar. One of the best ways of separating them is to examine the leaf-mine in the foodplant.

Lifestage data

Leaf miner. Eggs on leaf. Larva forms narrow gallery, widening, finally forming blotch. Pupates in brown silk covered cocoon.
