Resident. Widely distributed in England, but patchy & uncommon in Scotland & Wales.

Montgomeryshire Status

Discovered in Llanfyllin in the north of the county in 2019.

Wingspan :   M & F, 5-6mm.

Confusion species

Many species in this group are very similar. One of the best ways of separating them is to examine the type of leaf-mine.

Habitat

Wherever the foodplant is found.

Foodplant

Black poplar.

Lifestage data

Leaf miner. Eggs either side of leaf. Larva forms a slender gallery, later widening into a blotch. Pupa: orange to dark brown.
