UK Status

Resident. Widespread and common in the southern half of England, spreading into Wales.

Montgomeryshire Status

First recorded in the east of the county at Roundton Hill nature reserve in 2013, which was only the sixth record for north Wales.

Wingspan :   M & F 4-5mm.

Confusion species

Many species of Stigmella and Ectoedemia are very similar.

Wherever the foodplant is found.

Foodplant

Hawthorn.

Lifestage data

Leaf miner. Eggs laid on underside of leaf. Larva first forms a narrow gallery which expands abruptly into a blotch. Pupates in a reddish-brown cocoon on the ground.
