Resident. Widespread and local in England and Wales, more numerous in western counties.

Montgomeryshire Status

First recorded in 2014 at Middletown in the east of the county. Probably an overlooked species.

Wingspan :   M & F 9-12mm.

Confusion species

Psychoides filicivora.
Flight time & Voltinity (Univoltine)

Habitat

Woodland, hedgerows and gardens.

Foodplant

Hart's-tongue fern.

Lifestage data

Leaf miner. Eggs laid on leaf. Larva first mines leaf, later forming a larval case and feeding on sporangia. Pupates in case.
