Resident. Widely distributed throughout the British Isles, but becoming more scarce further north.

Montgomeryshire Status

Uncommon. Just a handful of records, last recorded in Commins Coch in 2008.

Wingspan :   M & F, 11-17mm.

Confusion species


N. pieccella, N. fuscella, N. piercella, some Halplotinea spp. and some Tinea spp.




Flight time & Voltinity (Univoltine)


Habitat

Bird's nests, poultry houses.

Foodplant

Debris in bird's nests, feathers, animal fibres and stored products.

Lifestage data

Case-bearing. Larva feeds in a potable silken tube that particles of food adhere to.
