Resident. Fairly uncommon but widely distributed throughout the British Isles.

Wingspan :   M & F, 9-16mm.

Confusion species

T. dubiella, T. translucens, T. lanella, T. flavescentella and T. murariella.
Flight time & Voltinity (Univoltine+)

Habitat

Wherever the food source is found.

Foodplant

Woollen products, animal fibres, bird's nests, owl pellets and stored vegetable products.

Lifestage data

Case-bearing. Larva feeds in a portable silken tube which is open at each end. Pupates in larval case which is fixed some distance from feeding site.
