UK Status Resident. Abundant throughout the British Isles as far north as Sutherland, but far more rare and local in the north. Montgomeryshire Status Recorded quite well across the county. Wingspan : M & F, 9-10mm. Confusion species Many species of Parornix are very similar, care should be taken with identification. |
Flight time & Voltinity
(Bivoltine)  Habitat Woodlands and hedgerows. Foodplant Hazel. Lifestage data Leaf miner. Eggs laid on underside of leaf. Larva forms a gallery which develops into a square blotch which enlarges as feeding continues. Pupates in an ochreous cocoon under a turned down leaf edge. |
