UK Status

Resident. A very local species in central southern England as far north as the mid Wales borders.

Montgomeryshire Status

First recorded in 2013 at Middletown in the east of the county.

Wingspan :   M & F 7-9mm.

Confusion species

Many species of Phyllonorycter are extremely similar, great care should be given when separating these species.

Wherever the foodplant is found.

Foodplant

Grey alder.

Lifestage data

Leaf miner. Eggs laid on underside of leaf. Larva mines the upperside of leaf between two veins, not quite reaching the mid-rib. The pupa is light brown and it pupates within mine in a large yellowish chamber away from any frass.
