Resident. Widespread and common in England and Wales as far north as Cheshire.

Montgomeryshire Status

A single old record taken from the south of the county at Llwynygog in 1990.

Wingspan :   M & F, 7-8mm.

Confusion species


Care should be taken, very similar to other species of Phyllocnistis.

Habitat

Open country, woodlands and gardens.

Foodplant

Poplar spp.

Lifestage data

Leaf miner. Eggs laid on either side of leaf. Larva forms a long irregular gallery. Pupates in a silken cocoon at the end of the mine.
