Resident. Widespread and common throughout the British Isles.

Montgomeryshire Status

Recorded from a few sites in the north of the county. Probably more common than the records suggest.

Wingspan :   M & F, 19-22mm.

Confusion species

Y. cagnagella and Y. malinellus.
Flight time & Voltinity (Univoltine)

Habitat

Wherever the foodplant is found.

Foodplant

Blackthorn, hawthorn, plum, cherry.

Lifestage data

Web forming. Eggs laid in batches under a protective covering on foodplant. Larva feed on buds/leaves in a web gregariously. In some cases they can defoliate a complete tree. Pupates gregariously in web.
