Resident. Widespread but local, in Britain as far north as the Scottish borders.

Montgomeryshire Status

Found to be fairly common in the north of the county around the Llanfyllin area.

Wingspan :   M & F, 17-20mm.

Habitat

Mostly in wooded areas.

Foodplant

Field maple and sycamore.

Lifestage data

Spinning. Eggs laid on a twig of the foodplant. Larva feeds from a slight spinning. Pupates in a soft white cocoon in moss on the trunk, under the bark or in the leaf litter.
