Resident. Found throughout England and Wales, local in the north, more common in the south.

Montgomeryshire Status

First discovered in the east of the county at Middletown in 2011.

Wingspan :   M & F, 15-20mm.

Confusion species

Care should be taken as other species of Coleophora can look very similar.
Flight time & Voltinity (Univoltine)

Habitat

Rough grassland and waste ground.

Foodplant

Ribbed or tall melilot.

Lifestage data

Case-bearing/seed miner. Eggs laid on flower. Larva first mines seeds in seedpod, the empty seedpod is then used as a case, from which other seedpods are mined. Pupates within case, attached to debris on ground.
