Resident. Widespread and common throughout the British Isles.

Montgomeryshire Status

Although recorded from just two sites, this species is likely to be common, probably under-recorded.

Wingspan :   M & F, 12-15.5mm.

Confusion species

It is often impossible to separate the adults of some species. In some cases differences can be seen in various life stages.

Habitat

Grassland, downs and heaths.

Foodplant

Gorse.

Lifestage data

Case-bearing/seed miner. Eggs laid on flower. Larva first mines seedpod, then constructs a case, mining continues leaving holes in seeds. Pupates within case, attached to a dead gorse flower.
