Resident. Found throughout much of Britain where it can be locally common.

Montgomeryshire Status

First recorded in 2012 at Middletown in the east of the county. This was only the seventh record for north Wales.

Wingspan :   M & F 12.5-15mm.

Confusion species

Care should be taken as other species of Coleophora can look very similar.

Habitat

Wherever the foodplant is found.

Foodplant

Thistles.

Lifestage data

Leaf miner. Eggs laid on upperside of leaf. Larva makes white blotch from which it forms a case. It then mines the leaf from below, making series of white blotches. Pupates in case attached to foodplant, low down in the herbage.
