Resident. Widespread and often common throughout much of the British isles.

Montgomeryshire Status

First recorded in 2010 at Llanfyllin in the north of the county. Subsequently found at Commins Coch.

Wingspan :   M & F, 11-13mm.

Confusion species


Many species of Elachista are extremely similar, great care should be given when separating these species. It is often impossible to separate the adults of some species. In some cases differences can be seen in various life stages.

Habitat

Wherever foodplant is found.

Foodplant

Cock's-foot.

Lifestage data

Leaf miner. Eggs laid near tip of developing leaf. Larva mines a long white gallery filled centrally with frass, it later rolls the leaf and feeds within. Pupates in concealed areas of stem bases.
