Resident. Widespread but local throughout Britain, as far north as Renfrewshire.

Montgomeryshire Status

Two confirmed records taken from the east of the county at Montgomery Castle in 2003 and Llanfyllin in 2010.

Wingspan :   M & F,16-19mm.

Habitat

Open grassy places.

Foodplant

Spear thistle and creeping thistle.

Lifestage data

Leaf miner/spinning. Eggs laid on a leaf. Larva first mines a leaf from the underside, it later feeds in a web under the leaf, making whitish blotches from above. Pupates in detritus or the soil.
