Resident. Widespread and very common throughout the British Isles especially in sandy places.

Montgomeryshire Status

Recorded from four sites in the county, but will probably be more widespread.

Wingspan :   M & F, 14-16.5mm.

Confusion species

B. politella and B. desertella.
Flight time & Voltinity (Univoltine)

Habitat

Wherever the foodplant is found.

Foodplant

Mosses and common bent.

Lifestage data

Spinning. Eggs, oviposition site undescribed. Larva forms a white silken tube attached to the moss on which it feeds. Pupates in a cocoon in the larval feeding place.
