Resident. Widespread and fairly common throughout the coastal counties of the British Isles as far north as Aberdeenshire, more scarce inland.

Montgomeryshire Status

Recorded once from a site in the west of the county at Staylittle in 1975.

Wingspan :   M & F, 12-14mm.

Confusion species

S. nitentella, S. atriplicella and S. salinella
Flight time & Voltinity (Bivoltine+)

Wherever the foodplant is found.

Foodplant

Orache.

Lifestage data

Stem miner. Eggs, oviposition site unobserved. Larva mines the stem eating the pith. Pupates in the stem of the foodplant.
