Resident. Widespread and generally common throughout the British Isles as far north as Perthshire.

Recorded from three sites in the extreme north of the county.

Wingspan :   M & F, 13-17mm.

Habitat

Woodland, parks and commons.

Foodplant

Birch.

Lifestage data

Catkin feeder. Eggs, oviposition site not documented. Larva feeds inside a catkin. Pupates in whitish silken cocoon in larval habitation or spun up in leaf litter on the ground.
