Resident. Widely distributed and generally common throughout the British Isles as far north as Inverness-shire.

Montgomeryshire Status

Un-recorded from 1975 until found again at Lake Vyrnwy in 2014.

Wingspan :   M & F, 16-22mm.

Confusion species

Z. insertana.
Flight time & Voltinity (Univoltine)

Habitat

Larch plantations and pine woods.

Foodplant

Mainly pine and larch.

Lifestage data

Spinning. Eggs laid on twigs of foodplant. Larva spins leaves into a cylindrical bundle lined with silk and feeds within. Pupates in a tough silken cocoon amongst the needles on ground.
