Resident. A locally fairly common species in the south and west of Britain, more scarce in the north and east.

Montgomeryshire Status

First recorded at Llanymynech Rocks in the north-east of the county in 2011.

Wingspan :   M & F, 17-26mm.

Flight time & Voltinity (Univoltine)

Habitat

Uncultivated ground, river banks & coastal cliffs.

Foodplant

Mugwort.

Lifestage data

Stem/root feeder. Eggs laid on foodplant. Larva feeds on the roots and rootstocks, tunnelling upwards in the main stem and side shoots. Pupates in a silken cocoon in stem.
