Resident. Widespread but local throughout Britain as far north as Perthshire, less common in the north.

Montgomeryshire Status

A fairly common species that seems to be restricted to the north of the county.

Wingspan :   M & F, 16-20mm.

Confusion species


A. geniculea, Pediasia contaminella and P. aridella.




Flight time & Voltinity (Univoltine)


Habitat

Heathland, dunes and downs.

Foodplant

Short grasses.

Lifestage data

Grass moth. Eggs laid on foodplant. Larva lives and feeds in a slight silken gallery amongst the bases of the grass stems. Pupal site undocumented.
