Resident. Widespread and common throughout the British Isles, but less common in Scotland.

Recorded at several sites throughout the county, but never common.

Wingspan :   M & F, 17-20mm.

Flight time & Voltinity (Univoltine)


Open country and coastal shingle.


Mainly common ragwort.

Lifestage data

Root feeder. Eggs laid on foodplant. Larva lives in the roots and feeds within, also feeds on decaying plant material. Pupal site undescribed.
